In November 2022, I had the pleasure of illustrating both the front and back covers of a coloring book titled “World Flags Coloring Book”. The invitation for this project came from London-based author Romilly Potter, following a recommendation by author Tara Annison, with whom I collaborated on “The Crypto Advent Calendar”. The book has been released on Amazon.com for English-speaking territories through the Kindle Direct Publishing program. It has received high praise from readers, particularly in the US and UK, earning a 5-star rating.

Creative Process
For this project, my role was solely to illustrate the front and back covers. The concept and other elements, such as product manufacturing and marketing, were handled by Romilly Potter and his team.
To develop this illustration, I requested a list of items to be included in the scene. Romilly promptly provided a list with over 100 items. Given the search-and-find style made famous by Martin Handford’s “Where’s Wally?”, which is characterized by its rich detail and multitude of elements, there was ample space to incorporate many items. As is often the case with illustrations of this nature, the creative process was extensive yet enjoyable. I enjoyed a great deal of creative freedom, with the author only suggesting minor adjustments.

5.0 out of 5 stars – This is perfect for both adults and children alike 😀
I recently purchased this world flags coloring book and I absolutely love it! The book cover is so eye-catching and vibrant, with a glossy finish that adds to its appeal. Not only is it great for coloring, but each page also includes interesting facts about each flag. This is perfect for both adults and children alike, as you can learn about each country’s history, geography and culture while having fun at the same time. The images are relevant to the country and flags being discussed, making it easier to understand the information provided.
The book also comes with a bonus game, which was a nice surprise – 92 things to find in the illustration on the cover of the book. My nephew loves this game; he really enjoys the facts and searching for things in book cover illustration. It’s definitely a great way to spend time together while learning something new.
One of my favourite features is that although each page has an illustration of the flag, there are no colour suggestions actually included in the book itself; instead you must look up online what colours are used for each flag. This makes it more interactive and fun – my nephew and I always spend extra time looking up different flags online to decide which colours we think look best on them!
Overall this World Flags Coloring Book makes an excellent gift idea. It offers hours of entertainment while also teaching interesting facts about world flags. Highly recommend!!
